Who We Are

We work in partnership with organisations to improve the lives of residents and families, predominantly in Rotherham West, in particular Masbrough and Ferham. Our name reflects the steel heritage of this area, with Robert Jenkins’ Steel Works in Masbrough, once providing employment to local men. We do provide a full and bespoke community consultancy service across all of South Yorkshire.

We are a values driven organisation and believe in doing the right thing and working in an ethical and equitable way. We are open and honest, operating with integrity and transparency. We aim to be relatable and to not let people down.

Zainab Rasool

Co-Founder & Director

I have worked in the voluntary community sector for over 30 years, starting my career as a community development worker. This provided me with a solid foundation to understand the complexities of community dynamics, the skills and knowledge held by communities, and also the challenges and barriers.

I have extensive experience in securing funding and developing initiatives that foster community cohesion and integration. A significant part of my professional life has been focused on empowering women and young people. I am deeply committed to the principles of equality, diversity, social justice, and equity.

  Mezz Hussain

                              Director

I am a resident of Masbrough and have been involved in the delivery of Steel City projects, from family learning, mother and toddler group, youth sessions, supporting adult learning provision, and assisting women seeking employment.

I own my own massage and beauty therapy business in the local area. I am the chair of governors at Thornhill Primary School and have a deep commitment to education and learning by offering opportunities to children and young people out of school and supporting them through the transitional phases of their lives. My efforts focus on empowering women and facilitating their access to community-based resources that enhance confidence and self-esteem.

I champion community cohesion and bringing people together from different backgrounds in the spirit of friendship and a shared purpose as citizens of Rotherham. As an organisation, we are driven by a passion for equity and ensuring our community is not left behind.

  Mounira Laldji

                            Director

I am from Algeria and was a primary school teacher in France. I am the mother of four children and passionate about education and learning. I am always learning and undertaking courses to increase my knowledge and understanding. I speak fluent French and Arabic and assist Steel City learners in ESOL and IT sessions.

I enjoy working in the community and supporting isolated women new to Rotherham. Having been a service user at Steel City, I witnessed the remarkable efforts the organization makes to aid women and girls, which inspired me to take on the role of director. I am wholeheartedly dedicated to the organization’s vision of positively impacting the lives of Rotherham residents while fostering community cohesion and diversity.
