Recent Work: Exploring the Menopause

We have explored South Asian women’s experience of the Menopause.

This is an under-researched area leading to health inequalities. We facilitated four focus groups in the community to explore the lived experience of South Asian heritage Muslim women. Looking at how menopause has impacted their personal and work lives, relationships, the symptoms and how they manage them along with the cultural and faith aspect.

You can read more about the report, which we launched in June 2025. It is also available to view and download below.

Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber have written a great piece on their website about the report, which gives some oversight into the context and journey getting to publication.

Recent Work: Ethnicity and Unequal Ageing: Experiences in Rotherham and Sheffield

The University of Sheffield recently commissioned us to assess the co-production aspect of the ‘Ethnicity and Unequal Ageing’ project, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

The project aimed to enhance the understanding of ageing and to explore how experiences related to inclusion vary across the life course for individuals belonging to different ethnic groups.

The project collaborated with a number of organisations and individuals with whom Steel City held focus groups and discussions. The results of the reflection and insight sessions are compiled in the report presented below.

As a result of this work with the University of Sheffield, the university will be presenting the learning at MISCOE 2026 conference in summer 2026.
